Bill was a great supporter of myself at Fisons pharmaceuticals with the development. Together with Jack Pepys he edited the proceedings of the launch symposium for inhaled sodium cromoglycate held at the Royal Society of Medicine on 5th March 1969. I remember meeting him at about 1100pm in a bar in Bangkok. Over a drink he told me he had just taken the train on the death railway on which as a medical prisoner of war he had to look after those prisoners working on the railway. When asked how he coped with life he said that as long as he had food in his belly and a comfortable to sleep on he would ask for nothing more. A true patriot and gentleman. Alan
